Jeffs field hockey defeats Babson

The 20th-ranked Amherst College field hockey team scored the first three goals en route to a 5-3 win over Babson College Thursday night at Babson Park.

Elizabeth Schink scored two goals for the Jeffs (6-3), and Molly Malloy, Carly Dudzik and Katie McMahon added one apiece.

Emily Vitale made two saves in goal for Amherst, which had a 22-10 advantage in shots.

Westfield State 2, Smith 0 - Margaret Winter made three saves in goal for the Pioneers (3-7) who were outshot 15-9 in the loss in Westfield.

Women's soccer

Holyoke Community College 3, Manchester Community College 1 - Goaltender Kelly Omasta of Hadley made 12 saves as the Cougars (9-3-1) won on the road.

Hannah Miller scored two goals for Holyoke, and Amanda Martins added one goal and one assist.

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 6, Bay Path 0 - Junior midfielder Danielle Parenteau of Southampton had a goal and two assists for the Trailblazers (8-3) who won in Longmeadow.

Elms 0, Saint Joseph, Conn. 0 - Senior Vanessa Pare of Belchertown had three shots for the Blazers in the scoreless tie in Chicopee.

Women's tennis

UMass 4, UConn 3 - The Minutewomen (2-0) swept the doubles and won the top three matches for the victory in Amherst.

Magdalena Ploch, Julia Comas and Candynce Boney each won their singles and doubles matches for UMass.
