Discovery of artillery shell clears Granby neighborhood

GRANBY - About 10 houses on Breezy Lane in Granby were evacuated Thursday morning after a homeowner found an artillery shell in his attic.

Police said Edwin Jendrysik, 64, was cleaning his attic about 10 a.m. when he found the two-foot-long shell and called police.

Granby police and firefighters secured the area and evacuated residents within about 1,000 feet of the house before the state police bomb squad approached the shell.

Members of that team found that the shell was empty and posed no danger.

Jendrysik did not know the shell was in the attic, police said, theorizing it belonged to his father, who had owned the house.
