Robert Parsons, 89, WWII vet, VA employee
WILLIAMSBURG - Robert T. Parsons, 89, of Williamsburg, died on Sept. 19 at the Linda Manor Nursing facility after a brief illness.
He was born in Palmer on Aug. 23, 1920, the son of the late Edward Parsons and Lura (Marcy) Parsons. He lived in Monson and in Enfield, moving to Belchertown with his family due to the construction of the Quabbin Reservoir. He attended and graduated from Belchertown High School and attended the University of Massachusetts for two years prior to his induction into the U.S. Army in 1942.
Mr. Parsons was in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as a radar repairman with the Headquarters Squadron of the 85th Fighter Wing in the Philippines. Following his discharge from the service, Mr. Parsons attended and graduated from the former Northampton Commercial College. He worked as an accountant for General Electric in Pittsfield. After moving back to Northampton he worked at the Leeds VA Hospital as a nursing assistant and also part-time as an accountant for Cotton Tree Service for 41 years.
Mr. Parsons leaves his wonderful wife of 62 years, Ruth (Claydon) Parsons of Williamsburg; He is also survived by a daughter, Jane Bickford, and her husband David of Northampton; a son, Edward Parsons, and his wife Nancy of Littleton; three granddaughters, Amy Conklin, Sarah Bickford and Heather Parsons; one grandson, Luke Parsons; and two great-grandsons, Cameron Conklin and Aidan Conklin.
Mr. Parsons was a lifelong lover of classical music, current technology (especially the computer), playing cards and spending time with family. He was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Calling hours will be at Pease and Gay Funeral Home, 425 Prospect St., Northampton, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Williamsburg Congregational Church, with burial at the Village Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Linda Manor Extended Care Facility, 349 Haydenville Road, Leeds, MA 01053 or to the Williamsburg Congregational Church, North Main Street, Williamsburg, MA 01096.
