Betty Fritz, danced with Rockettes

WORTHINGTON - Betty Christine Fritz, 83, passed away on Aug. 12, after a brief period of declining health.

Born in New York and raised on Long Island, she was the daughter of the late Minnie and George Henry. Betty danced with the former New York City Rockettes before moving to Westfield with her parents. It was there she met and married her former husband Walter O. Fritz Sr., who predeceased her in 2007. She and Walter had four children, who were the great joy of her life.

Betty worked for the former Ann August Store in Northampton as well as the former Steiger's Department Store in Westfield. She also worked in the Gateway school system as a cook. Both careers suited her, as she was a "people person", a wonderful cook and a second mother to all the children she came in contact with.

She is survived by her sons, Walter Fritz Jr. and his wife Gail and John Fritz and his wife Sarah, all of Worthington. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved daughters, Darryl Albert of Worthington and Pamela Pease of Springfield. She also leaves lifelong friends, Barb Pease of Worthington and Lois Kondrat of Russell.

There will be a memorial service Monday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, 60 Broad St. in Westfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are omitted.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Betty's memory be made to Development Specialist/Adoption Services, Lutheran Social Services of New York, 475 Riverside Drive, Suite 1244, New York, NY 10115. Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield is in charge of arrangements.
