HATFIELD - A vehicle struck and killed a bear on I-91 Wednesday night, state police said.

George Claxton, of 26 High St., Easthampton was driving in the southbound lane at Mile 30 of I-91 when his vehicle struck the bear at around 11 p.m., state police said.

Claxton declined medical assistance, but his vehicle was towed because it was not drivable, state police said.

The bear was dead when officers arrived on the scene, they said.
