Edward Hurlburt, 56, of Red Rock Cruisers

NORTHAMPTON - Edward H. Hurlburt Jr., 56, of Sylvester Road, Florence, passed away suddenly June 17 while driving in Holyoke.

He was born in Northampton, Sept. 1, 1952, the son of the late Edward H. and Beatrice A. (Ryan) Hurlburt Sr. He was educated in the Northampton schools and attended the Smith Vocational High School in Northampton. He was employed as a safety supervisor for three years with the Durham School Services in Holyoke. Previously he had been employed at the former First Student Bus Co. in Springfield, for several years, among many other bus companies throughout the area. He also had been employed for 20 years at the Berkshire Electric Cable Co. in Leeds. Ed was a very active member of the Red Rock Cruisers on Wednesday nights in Southampton, a big motorcycle enthusiast, and a past board member of the Burgy Bullets Snowmobile Club in Haydenville. He was a longtime volunteer with the 4-H Food Booth at the Three-County Fair in Northampton.

He leaves his beloved wife of 37 years, Martha J. (LaRochelle) Hurlburt; his loving sons, Edward H. Hurlburt III and his friend Amy Burlingame of Haydenville, Joseph H. Hurlburt and his wife Amanda of Florence and Fred H. Hurlburt and his wife Cynthia of Fort Dix, N.J.; his three cherished grandchildren, Kami, Dylan and Jayden; his caring sister, Nancy Bowler, and his many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the College Church in Northampton. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery in Florence. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 17 Clark St. in Easthampton. Memorial gifts can be made to Hampshire County 4-H Club, Massachusetts 4-H Foundation, 22 Eliot St., Ashland, MA.
