South Hadley baseball team suffers heartbreaker

Hoosac Valley 6, South Hadley 5 - The No. 7 Hurricanes (13-8) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally over the No. 10 Tigers (6-15) in a Western Massachusetts Division 2 first-round game Saturday in Cheshire.

Nick Bourdon smacked a two-run single to give Hoosac the walk-off win.

Pat Dragon and Sam Belsky each had two hits for South Hadley, while Kyle Grumoli (run) and Paul Ciolek (RBI, run) both had doubles.

Jay Dizek added a two-run single for the Tigers, who scored twice in the top of the first and never trailed until the bottom of the seventh.

Sean Sullivan went six innings, striking out 11 and got a no-decision for South Hadley. Ciolek allowed three earned runs in the seventh and was charged with the loss.

The loss marked the final game for South Hadley seniors Stephen Brown, Patrick Ginley, Sullivan, Ciolek, Belsky and Dizek.

Hoosac advances to play at Belchertown at 4 p.m. today in the quarterfinals.
