Broderick leads Tigers
South Hadley 13, Belchertown 4 - T.J. Broderick picked up his first varsity win as the Tigers (6-11, 3-4 Suburban) defeated the Orioles (11-8, 3-5 Suburban) at home.
South Hadley led 5-4 after two innings, but Broderick (four hits, two earned runs, six strikeouts) settled down with five shutout innings.
Sam Belsky (two runs, two RBIs) and Pat Dragon (two runs, RBI) each had three hits, while Kyle Grumoli (two runs), Jay Dizek (run, RBI), Steve Brown (run, RBI) and Conner Abert (two RBIs) all had two hits for the Tigers.
Bryan Eldridge had two hits and scored a run for the Orioles (11-8, 3-5 Suburban), while Mike Foley added a two-run single.
Southwick 7, Smith Academy 2 - Tony Afflitto (RBI), Colin Dowd (RBI) and Matt Sulda each had two hits as the Falcons (6-13) lost on the road.
Nick Fitzgerald walked six over three-plus innings and took the loss for Smith. Sulda struck out two and walked three in relief.
Ware 10. Granby 5 - Jesse Cummings (two RBIs, run) and Carl Danoff (RBI) each went 2-for-4 but the Rams (14-4) dropped their second straight, this time at one of the top teams in Division 3.
Holyoke Catholic 9, Dean Tech 4 - Ryan Ferriter's strong performance on the mound gave the Gaels (6-14) a win in their finale in Holyoke. The junior gave up one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out eight in the complete-game effort.
Michael Prattico led the offense with three hits, two runs and two RBIs, while Jake Hagelstein and Ferriter each drove in a pair.
The win marked the final game for seniors Ian Daigle, Sean Zoufaly, Mike Natali, D.J. Tucker, Devin Egan, Prattico and Hagelstein.
East Longmeadow 10, Northampton 3 - The Blue Devils (8-10, 2-5 Suburban) lost on the road and now need to win their final two games, both against teams they have previously beaten, to reach the postseason.
Dylan Kaufman went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Northampton.
The Blue Devils play South Hadley at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Arcanum Field in the first game of the George Perry Memorial Tournament, which is named for a longtime local umpire and coach. Amherst Regional faces Cathedral in the second game of the doubleheader. Between the two games, one senior from each team will receive a scholarship from the Hampshire-Franklin Umpires Association.
Northampton will play the Hurricanes in the second day of the tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday in South Hadley.
Amherst Regional 9, Holyoke 5 - The Hurricanes (12-6, 7-2 Valley League) scored eight runs in the first inning and kept their league title hopes alive with the victory over the Purple Knights under the lights at McKenzie Stadium.
Amherst plays Cathedral at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Arcanum Field in Northampton in the second game of the George Perry Tournament. Westfield defeated Cathedral 4-0 Wednesday, leaving the 'Canes, Panthers and Bombers all tied for first at 7-2 in the league.
Fred Shepard struck out nine in six innings and earned the win for Amherst.
Dean Bonneau (three runs, two RBIs), Evan Hazelett (RBI) and Kevin Ziomek (run, RBI) each had two hits for the Hurricanes.
