Streaking Golden Hawks roll past slumping Red Hawks

What a difference a month makes.

The Hopkins Academy baseball team rolled past Frontier Regional 13-2 Monday in South Deerfield to avenge an early season loss.

Frontier beat the Golden Hawks 12-4 in Hadley on April 15. Hopkins (12-3, 9-3 Hampshire) has now won 10 straight.

The game was tied 2-2 after three innings, but Hopkins pitcher Garrison Banas settled down and retired the last 14 batters.

The Hopkins hitters gave him plenty of support, scoring three times in the fourth, three times in the seventh and five times in the fifth.

Burke Bonneville led the Golden Hawks' offense with three hits, two runs and two runs bated in, while Bryan Pelchat had two hits, a run and an RBI. Chris Levielle had a hit and drove in three.

Eric Abramson had an RBI double for Frontier (6-8, 5-5 Hampshire), which has lost four straight.

Granby 4, Smith Vocational 3 - Zack Cloutier hit a one-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to drive home Sean Sheridan and give the Rams the win at home.

Tim Gifford pitched the seventh inning in relief of Kyle Pardee to earn the win for Granby (12-2, 9-1 Tri-County North). Pardee allowed two earned runs on seven hits.

Cloutier, Carl Danoff, and Matt Whitacre each went 2-for-3 with and RBI for the Rams, and Sheridan was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a triple.

Mike Walkowicz struck out eight in 6-1/3 innings but took the loss for the Vikings (4-11, 2-7 Tri-County North).

Andy Blair went 3-for-4 with a run and a double for Smith Vocational, and Kyle Sheldon and Keiffer Staples each had a hit and an RBI.

Northampton 4, South Hadley 0 - Blue Devils pitcher Mike Lentner dominated the Tigers by allowing four hits and a walk while striking out 12 in seven innings.

Luke LaPlante led the offense for Northampton (8-7, 2-2 Suburban) with four hits and two RBIs, and Max Talbot added a single and drove in a run.

Dan Beaguard led South Hadley (3-10, 1-3 Suburban) with two hits.

Ware 7, Hampshire Regional 5 (10) - The Red Raiders (2-11, 1-9 Bi-County) played their fifth extra-inning game of the season and fell to 1-4 in those games with the loss in Westhampton.

Hampshire trailed 5-0 when it scored two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull within one. Mike Konarski (2-for-5, run) then doubled home Tom Leveille with the tying run in the seventh.

Zach Cloutier (4-for-5, three runs) hit a two-run single in the 10th for Ware (11-1, 8-1).\

Craig Schoen (3-for-5, RBI) scored two runs, and Alex Pilger (2-for-5, RBI) scored one for Hampshire.

Matt Dziok struck out five and walked four for the Red Raiders. Alex Brunelle took the loss in relief.

Franklin Tech 3, Smith Academy 0 - Jeremy Roberts pitched a four-hit shutout as the Eagles (10-5, 7-3 Tri-County North) qualified for the postseason with the win in Hatfield.

Chris Sulda (double) had two of the Falcons' four hits. Sulda also struck out nine and walked five in the loss.

Roberts smacked an RBI triple in the fifth to give Franklin Tech a 1-0 lead. He later scored on a double steal for a 2-0 lead.

Mahar 5, Easthampton 3 - The loss at home set the Eagles back to 4-10, the same record they had last year before they won six straight to qualify for the postseason.

Matt Gilbert went 2-for-3 with a run scored and his brother Peter Gilbert had an RBI single for Easthampton.

Tim Cunningham struck out two and walked one in the loss.

Belchertown 4, Holyoke 2 - Brian Tabb struck out three, walked none and allowed two hits in the complete-game victory for the Orioles (10-5).

Tabb threw 76 pitches and was perfect through four innings. Holyoke (9-6) broke up the perfect game with a hit in the fifth inning. The Purple Knights scored both their runs in the sixth on three errors.

Dan Hodgen had an RBI double in the first, and tripled and scored a run in the third on Bryan Eldridge's single.

Mike Foley scored three runs for Belchertown.

Sci-Tech 14, Holyoke Catholic 5 - The Cybercats (10-5, 7-3 Bi-County) qualified for the postseason with the victory in Springfield.

Michael Prattico went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Gaels (5-9, 4-6).

Jake Hagelstein (RBI) and Ian Daigle (RBI) each went 2-for-3 while Paul Novinski had one RBI for Holyoke Catholic.

Gateway Regional 9, Southwick 3 - Mike Miller pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts and one walk to earn the win for the Gators in Huntington.

Ray Bressette went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored, and a double to lead Gateway (9-5, 6-4 Bi-County), while Tommy Ray went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
