Kevin Ziomek opened his junior year Tuesday with a sensational performance on the mound for Amherst Regional.

The southpaw ace struck out 18 batters in a 2-0 win over Minnechaug Regional in the opener for both teams in Amherst.

Ziomek's first nine outs were all strikeouts. He struck out the side five times, while allowing just three hits.

The Hurricanes (1-0) had six hits, and Dean Bonneau and Sean Cunningham each had RBI singles.
