Freshman Kristina Danella recorded her first double-double for the University of Massachusetts women's basketball team which defeated Rhode Island 58-52 Sunday at the Mullins Center in Amherst.

The win clinched a berth in the conference tournament for the Minutewomen (11-16, 4-8 Atlantic 10).

The Rams (9-18, 2-10 A-10) opened the second half by going on a 8-2 run and took a five-point lead. UMass came back with eight straight points and never lost the lead again.

Danella scored nine of her 11 points on 3-pointers and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.

Stefanie Gerardot led the Minutewomen in scoring with 13 points and added six rebounds.

UMass plays at St. Joseph's in Philadelphia at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
