Holyoke blows past Agawam in third period

The Holyoke hockey team exploded for four goals in the third period to defeat Agawam 5-2 at Fitzpatrick Arena in Holyoke Friday.

The Purple Knights improved to 2-1 with the victory.

"They weren't giving 100 percent. They were off a little bit" in the first two periods, Holyoke coach John Houle said. "I said #Each one of you guys has to win your shift, win your battles,' and they did. They came out flying and we were a little too much."

Tied 1-1, freshman Spencer Nawrocki scored two straight goals, including the game-winner for Holyoke in the third. The goals were the first of his career.

Pat Lenihan scored twice and Ben Menard added his first varsity goal for the Knights.

Cody Miller and Menard each had an assist. Luke Dilisio had two helpers.

Defenseman Kevin Stefanik and wing Nate Standen played well for Holyoke.

Goaltender Tadd Goff made 26 saves for the Knights.

Steve Fielder stopped 32 shots for Agawam (2-2), which defeated Holyoke in the postseason last year.

Chicopee 4, Easthampton 0 - The Pacers dropped the Eagles (1-1) to .500 with the win at Fitzpatrick Arena in Holyoke.

Luke Lepine made 24 saves for Easthampton.

Chicopee (4-0) got two goals from John Axton and 32 saves from Matt Bieda.

Turners Falls 7, Central 5 - Trevor Berman (assist) scored three goals while Jay Butynski (goal) had three assists as the Indians (1-2-1, 1-2-0 Wright) won in the Rabbit Graves Tournament at the Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.

Turners plays Greenfield in the tournament final Saturday at 6 p.m.

Kyle Platner added two goals while Sam Slocomb added one for Turners.

Brendan Jacobs, Wes Krejmas, Steve Ferro, Nick Gallerani, Jake Lapean, Keegan Downey and Dan Pereira all had one assist in the win.

Joey Rinaldi made 24 saves for Turners.
