Minutewomen win two in R.I.

The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team won the Brown Bear Classic by winning their second game of the weekend in Providence, R.I., with a 64-41 victory over Brown on Sunday.

Stefanie Gerardot led the Minutewomen (5-4) with 22 points, including six three-pointers.

Cerie Mosgrove added 12 points for UMass, and freshman Kristina Danella grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Gerardot and Mosgrove were named to the all-tournament team.

On Saturday, sophomore Teya Wright made two free throws with 12 seconds remaining to lift the Minutewomen to a 53-51 win over Long Island University.

UMass rallied after trailing 51-49 with one minute, 32 seconds to play.

Gerardot, who led the Minutewomen with 16 points, tied the game with a field goal she made while being fouled. However, she missed the free throw.

Wright, who had six points and tied for game high with eight rebounds, hit her free throws after being fouled while gathering an offensive rebound.

UMass returns home to play Delaware at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader at the Mullins Center. The men play Holy Cross at 7.
